Why I chose to move to Oxford Manor

Sheila’s connection to Oxford Manor began long before she moved in. Through her work delivering Meals on Wheels and her time at the hospital, she became familiar with retirement homes in Ingersoll and toured several communities. Oxford Manor felt right. She already knew a few of the ladies living there and was drawn to the kindness of residents and staff, who made a lasting impression from the very beginning.

A smooth and welcoming transition

Because Sheila felt ready for the change, her transition was smooth and reassuring. From the moment she arrived, she was greeted with open arms, helping her feel comfortable and at home right away.

The people make this home

Sheila appreciates the balance Oxford Manor offers. She enjoys being surrounded by people and the sense of community that brings, while still having her own private space to rest and spend quiet time when she chooses.

Activities I enjoy and staying connected

She enjoys exercise classes, bingo, and happy hour—regular opportunities to socialize, stay active, and share laughter with others.

Advice for someone considering retirement living

Sheila’s advice is simple and reassuring: don’t worry about being stuck in your room. There is always something happening that you can choose to join, and no one is ever forced to participate. For her, retirement living has been an overwhelmingly positive experience.

A lifetime of stories to share

Before retirement, Sheila built a meaningful career as a teacher in London, Toronto, and Leamington, teaching Grades 1 through 6. Her favourite students were in Grades 3 and 4. Music and movement were also important parts of her younger years—she played piano, figure skated, and participated in school plays. Family traditions were equally meaningful, with holidays spent gathering with loved ones.

Who inspires me now

At this stage in life, Sheila’s greatest inspiration is her children. Their presence and support bring pride, comfort, and motivation each day.

Friendship found me again

Since moving to Oxford Manor, Sheila has rediscovered the simple joy of conversation. Sharing stories and experiences with fellow residents who understand similar life journeys has brought renewed connection and meaning to everyday life.

Feeling happier, connected and completely myself

Living at Oxford Manor has made a genuine difference in Sheila’s outlook. While different from her years living in Toronto, she enjoys being in Ingersoll surrounded by a caring community. Without hesitation, she would recommend Oxford Manor to others seeking friendship, understanding, and a place where they truly belong.
