Read Laurie’s Story
The simple joys of daily life mean the most.
Why I chose to move to Oxford Manor
Laurie’s journey to Oxford Manor began with encouragement from her sister during a time when living independently was becoming more difficult. Although she was unsure at first, she explored several retirement communities and ultimately chose Oxford Manor because of its close proximity to family, friends, and the neighbourhood she had always known. Having grown up just down the road, moving there felt comfortingly familiar—like coming home.
A smooth and welcoming transition
Adjusting to a new way of living took time, as Laurie had always been very independent. Today, however, she truly loves being part of the Oxford Manor community. She has formed meaningful friendships with fellow residents and team members, including a special bond with Vern from maintenance, whose kindness has made a lasting impression.

She travelled to the Bahamas, Florida, and Nova Scotia with the Ingersoll Pipe Band—an important part of her life that brought music, friendship, and shared celebrations. She fondly remembers family gatherings during the holidays, especially New Year’s Eve and Christmas Eve traditions of ginger ale topped with a cherry. Weekly bowling outings and community dinners were also treasured parts of her past.
Who inspires me now
Laurie finds inspiration in her nieces and nephews, especially with new babies soon to arrive—reminders of family, continuity, and joy.
